WordPress SEO Melbourne Beyond Installing a Plugin
WordPress SEO is not as simple as installing Yoast and ticking green lights. WordPress comes with a unique set of technical pitfalls that can silently undermine your search rankings, even when your content is excellent.
At Khalis Marketing, I work specifically with businesses running WordPress websites to build SEO foundations that are technically sound, fast-loading, and built to rank. Over 10 years of experience, hands-on approach, no account managers. From $799/month, no lock-in.
Yoast vs Rank Math: Which Should You Use?
My honest recommendation: Rank Math for most new setups. It offers more features in its free version than Yoast does in its paid tier: schema markup controls, redirect management, Google Search Console integration, and keyword tracking built in, without paying extra. The interface is cleaner, the settings are more granular, and it generates leaner code output, which matters for page speed and Core Web Vitals.
Yoast has earned its reputation and remains a solid option, particularly for teams who value simplicity and a well-documented interface. If your developers or content team are already familiar with it and it's working well, there's no urgent reason to switch; the migration process itself carries some risk.
My recommendation: if you're setting up a new WordPress site, use Rank Math. If you're on an established site with Yoast and things are working, focus your energy elsewhere. The plugin choice is rarely the bottleneck. What I configure regardless of which plugin you use: proper title tag templates, XML sitemap settings, canonical URL setup, Open Graph tags, and structured data.
What's Included in Our WordPress SEO Service
Full Technical SEO Audit
Specific to your WordPress installation: crawl analysis, plugin conflict assessment, Core Web Vitals measurement, and identification of common WordPress SEO pitfalls.
Plugin Configuration
Rank Math or Yoast configured properly: title tag templates, XML sitemap settings, canonical URL setup, Open Graph tags, and structured data implementation.
Hosting & Server Speed Assessment
Your hosting provider directly impacts Core Web Vitals, a confirmed Google ranking signal. We assess your current setup and advise whether a migration to a faster host (Kinsta, WP Engine, SiteGround) would meaningfully improve SEO performance.
Page Builder & Theme Optimisation
Elementor and Divi often load large JavaScript and CSS files across every page, hurting Core Web Vitals scores. We identify specific performance improvements: CSS/JS minification, deferral, and unused widget removal, without requiring a full rebuild.
On-Page Optimisation
Keyword mapping, title tags, meta descriptions, heading structures, image compression, and internal linking for your core service and landing pages.
Archive & Taxonomy Management
WordPress automatically creates archive pages for every category and tag, often thin and duplicative, competing with your primary content. We configure noindex directives and canonical tags to prevent these pages from diluting your ranking signals.
Schema Markup Implementation
LocalBusiness, Article, Product, or FAQ schema as relevant to your business type, helping Google understand your content and surface rich results in search.
Monthly Reporting
Rankings, organic traffic, and technical health metrics reported monthly. You'll always know where you stand and what we're working on next.

WordPress Hosting: Why It Matters for SEO
Your hosting provider directly impacts your Core Web Vitals scores, and Core Web Vitals are a confirmed Google ranking factor. A slow server means a slow site, and a slow site means users leave before your page even loads.
Kinsta
Built on Google Cloud infrastructure. Consistently fast, server-side caching out of the box, genuinely technical support. The premium option, worth it for businesses that rely heavily on organic traffic.
WP Engine
Another managed host with strong performance and reliability. Like Kinsta, it handles caching, security, and automatic updates. A solid Kinsta alternative with strong Australian presence.
SiteGround
A solid mid-range option. Considerably more affordable than Kinsta or WP Engine while still offering server-level caching and Australian data centre options, which reduces latency for local visitors.
Common WordPress SEO Mistakes We Fix Every Day
Incorrect permalink structure: WordPress defaults to numeric URLs (?p=123) that are poor for SEO. Should be set to post-name structure immediately.
Leaving category and tag archive pages indexed: WordPress creates archives for every category and tag, often thin and duplicative.
Duplicate content from pagination: archives and WooCommerce product listings can create near-duplicate pages without proper canonical configuration.
Not verifying Google Search Console: many WordPress sites have never been connected, meaning no crawl error alerts or Core Web Vitals reports.
Unoptimised images: large, uncompressed images are one of the most common causes of poor Core Web Vitals.
